Team History-
In 1992 a group of Stow parents formed the Stow Swimming Club. This nucleus of
parents: Cicora, Pullin, Gangloff, Levenson, Teeple, Wright, Budai, and several others,
did the work to get this team off the drawing board and into the water. Because this
organization was initially a club sport the parents had to pay for pool time, coaching,
equipment, and transportation. Through generous donations and fundraisers the Swim
Club parents were able to raise over $11,000 in each of the first two seasons. How
successful and rewarding their efforts have become.

From this beginning under the coaching of Thea Murray and John Roseman, our teams
proved to be very competitive. Several swimmers have advanced to competition at the
State Championship. The 1995-96 season was the first year to be recognized as a Varsity
Sport. As a varsity sport, funding requirements were taken over by the school system and
the expenses covered by the parents were greatly reduced.

The 1996-97 team was led by Coach Mackin. In 1997-98 we welcomed coaches Van
Aukin, Stagmeier, and Menke who guided the team for one season. The 1998-2001
seasons brought coaches Steve VanderSchie, Jen Fry, and Rich Allman. During this
period the team enjoyed much success as a result of a great work ethic established by
some very dedicated coaches.

The 2001-2004 seasons were led by coaches Sid Freeman, Bart Kimble, and Rich Allman.
These seasons were successful with several swimmers advancing to District Finals. In
the 2001-2002 season advanced two Stow athletes to the State Championship and four in
the 2002-2003 season and six in the 2003-2004. The 2003-2004 boys team won the WRC
South league championship.
Starting in the 2004-2005 season, Bart Kimble took over as head coach. The team sent
ten swimmers to the State Championship. The boys 2004-2005 boys team tied for the
WRC South League championship. In the 2005-2006, the team sent three individuals to
the State Championship, while breaking 11 school records. Last year, the 2006-2007 team
sent two individuals and the girls Medley relay to the state meet.

There were few changes to the coaching staff for 2007-2008 season with Bart Kimble
continuing as the head coaching and returning as assistants are Jana Martin, Warren
Schnieder, and Jon Sues.

Each year this program has gained momentum and improved. There is solid support for
the swimming and diving program from parents, school administration, and students. Each
year, over fifty student-athletes are involved in Stow swimming and diving. This has
become a fine tradition for school and community to support with pride and admiration.
We look forward to a great season!
